Aluminium Acetate
$12.00 - $21.00Aluminium acetate is used for the mordanting of cellulose fibres such as cotton, linen and hemp. Use at 5-8% WOF.
Alum acetate is considered non-toxic, but working in a ventilated area and wearing a mask and gloves is best practice whilst handling this powder. I recommend keeping any tools used for this process separate from kitchen tools. Alum acetate may be safely disposed of in a municipal water system by pouring down the drain.
This material comes in a natural biodegradable cellophane. We recommend transferring this to a glass or plastic jar for long-term storage.SelectQuantityComing soon

Symplocos
$17.00 - $31.00Symplocos is a natural, plant based mordant. The leaves are a natural bioaccumulator of aluminium, and when harvested and groundintoo powder, these made an effective mordant. it can be used on both cellulose and protein fibres at 50% WOF.
Note that Symplocos does impart a yellowish shade onto your fabrics, and will therefore affect your final dye colour.

Aluminium Triformate
$16.50Aluminium Triformate is a room temperature mordant for both cellulose and protein fibres. part of the alum family, it is a more recent addition of mordanting options for the natural dyer, gaining popularity (particularly with wool dyers due to its temperature requirements) for its low-impact process (water & energy saving). It produces similar results to that of alum acetate, and can be used with a pre-tannin bath to help improve dye fastness. use at 5-10% WOF.

Ferrous sulphate is considered toxic, keep away from children and pets, work in a ventilated area and wear a mask and gloves whilst handling this powder. I recommend keeping any tools used for this process separate from kitchen tools.

Linseed - 1sq meter
$10.00Join us in our journey at home as we learn how to grow and process linen flax together!
Each packet of linseed contains approx. 2,000 seeds to provide a dense crop of flax over 1 square meter.
Please note, this flax has been historically bred to produce seed so its characteristics mean that it wants to branch and go to seed early. We can discourage branching by creating a dense crop (2000 seeds per square meter), and we should expect shorter plants than fibre-bred cultivars, but we should still get a good fibre length.View more details...QuantityComing soon

dried weld / dyer’s rocket [reseda luteola]
$29.00 - $56.00Weld is an ancient dye plant, it is thought to have been used since prehistoric times and was produced prolifically in Europe through to the 19th century as the most common source of yellow dye (until the importation of quercitron from the Americas). Now one of the most iconic sources of yellow dyes in the world, known for it’s excellent lightfastness.
Dye colours obtained: The plant is rich in luteolin, a flavonoid which produces a bright lightfast and UV stable yellow dye. It can be overdyed with woad (or indigo) to produce ‘Lincoln green’ (a colour often associated with Robin Hood and his band of merry men!). Combine with iron to create a wonderful chartreuse, or with iron + tannin to create a rich olive green. Samples dyed at 50% WOF.
Harvested BHU organics, Lincoln, Canterbury - Summer 2025
please note, this material comes packaged in a PLA-lined (bioplastic) kraft bag to keep its contents secure and dry whilst in transit. We recommend transferring to a paper bag or cardboard box in a dry, dark and ventilated area if not intended for immediate use.SelectQuantityComing soonLoad More
