Papahoa Fibreworks Farm Tour and Dye Workshop
WHERE: 469 Tai Tapu Road, Selwyn
This is an opportunity to join us out at the Papahoa Farm plot near Tai Tapu, to see where we grow our natural fibres and dye plants, have a bit of a yarn about the project and then have a play with some of our locally grown colour!
More details below!
Gina and Seonaid will take you on a tour of the farm, explaining the nitty gritty details from our first season at this plot, what we have been doing to improve our soil and our plans for the future. We'll then harvest some fresh flowers and do some dyeing of Papahoa cotton tote bags, as well as bundle dyeing a cotton fabric sample. If we have time at the end, you can also try your hand at processing some retted flax linen fibres on Gina's flax break!
A fun and educational day for those interested in growing, learning about natural fibres, natural dyeing and/or the Papahoa project!
*Please note that this is an all-weather event! If it is raining, we'll move the dyeing section of the workshop to our dyehouse, just a 5-minute drive down the road. The workshop will be approximately 3 hours.*
Please note before purchasing a ticket:
- This is not a wheelchair accessible event.
- This is an outdoor event in a farm setting, as such there will be hazards such as uneven ground and hoses. There will be minimal shade, so we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather conditions on the day.
- Tickets are non-refundable within a week of the workshop starting
